Green Space Conservancy Fund Drives
The Seabrook Island Green Space Conservancy is always on the lookout for strategic properties to conserve as green space on the Island. When we need to match a willing seller with sufficient funds to purchase the property, we may turn to donors to make the purchase happen. During 2023 Green Space turned to the community to provide the wherewithal to preserve a key lot on Old Oak Walk. In two months the “Lot 6 Fund Drive” raised more than $90,000, thanks to the generosity of more than 75 Seabrookers. While the lot is relatively small, it is part of a cluster of 8 conservation lots in the Old Oak Walk/Royal Pine Drive neighborhood that adds to a critical mass for our natural environment. As specific opportunities arise, SIGSC will ask the community to help.
Property Donations - Our newest additions
Thanks to the generosity of Hank and Laurel Greer, Seabrook Island now has two new conservation lots on Royal Pine Drive. The Greers, long time Seabrook Island residents, purchased the lots with the express purpose of donating them to the Seabrook Island Property Owners Association for conservation. Laurel commented that with the pace of development on the Island, they were motivated to step up to save space for the wildlife on the Island. “After all, the wildlife was here first.”
The first lot is .32 of an acre, which backs up to the horse trail and a big swath of undeveloped SIPOA land, thus providing a substantial wildlife habitat. The second lot is .26 of an acre at the corner of Royal Pine and Old Forest.
We facilitate the transfer to the Seabrook Island Property Owners’ Association for oversight and maintenance. Adding these lots for permanent preservation enhances the beauty of the Island, provides wildlife habitat and ultimately increases the value of all of our properties.
